PSB’s Fraud Awareness Tips

If someone calls claiming to be from The Peoples State Bank and asks you to give them the one-time passcodes that were sent to you via email or text message – HANG UP. We will never call you and ask for your one-time passcodes, but a scammer might!

Practical Tips to Be Fraud Aware!

  1. Never Share your One-Time Passcode with Anyone – Regardless of the urgency, situation, or supposed legitimacy of the request. Banks and other legitimate companies will never ask for your OTP.
  2. Always Verify Directly – If you receive a request from The Peoples State Bank or any other company that might seem suspicious, contact us or the other company directly and through our/their official channels (website, phone number, mobile app) to verify the request. Never call the numbers provided in the initial request.
  3. Create Strong Passwords and Apply Multi-Factor Authentication When Possible – You should regularly update your passwords to be strong and unique. When possible, you should also activate two-factor authentication (also called multi-factor authentication), which adds an extra layer of security beyond just the one-time passcode.
  4. Trust Your Gut! – If something feels off, then it probably is! Always listen to your intuition and never feel pressured to act immediately on requests for personal information. Remember, The Peoples State Bank and legitimate companies will never demand urgent and immediate action or threaten consequences for not providing sensitive information, such as OTPs. HANG UP, take a breath, and verify before moving forward.
